So, this weekend's been a fun one, relatively. Lots of cash burned and tossed for incineration. Two concerts over the weekend, and one more tomorrow. $10, $5 and $21 for the VJCO, SACO and VJC Choir respectively. Now $10 for VJCO is reasonable, really.
The music's good I guess? I mean I'm not one to judge. No, I'm not tone deaf, yes I love my music but no, this genre ain't my kinda thing. I just blink with that whole 'deer in the headlights' feeling when Yi Heng explains them CO scores and arty stuff to me. And till now I can't tell what note's what, of which my lack of.... enthusiasm back when I was CO did not help.
But this much I can tell: It was an enjoyable affair, nothing much to complain about, cept that Mel, Darren and I came in sweaty as hell and probably smelled like a dump because Darren let us off at the wrong stop and we had to run our sorry asses there.
I like Ju Hua Tai especially, but hell, unlike the songs I listen to, I can't tell you exactly why. Felt good on the ears and that's that. Oh and the duet MC did with the legendary Ting Kai(SP?) fella was pretty okay. He put up a good show, that MC, despite the pressure of performing with that fella.
I'll save the SACO thingy for later, that one's a bit tricky to handle.
Today's Mother's Day. So yeah, I dragged my sorry ass out with my family and we had a hella filling lunch at the Fish & CO next to Parkmall. Pretty okay I guess, it's Fish & CO, nothing new. Maybe just the location, but that's it. As always the service is a joy to look forward to, my dad agreed as well, (hard for him to give good remarks regarding service) what with this being his first time and all.
Next, we caught a movie at some I ono, Kallang shopping whatsisitsname thingy. New building. It's cool, has just about everything, and is only a 5 minute drive. Cinema, restaurants, food court, arcade, bowling alley (+ points), ice skating rink. (instant win in my book.) Hell it's been ages since I got to ice skate. I wanna try again and fall on my ass till it's sore.
Movie was 'The Forbidden Kingdom'. I dunno if y'all caught last year's Shen Diao Xia Lu. The actress doing Xiao Long Nu is (I noticed only now) gorgeous. Maybe not gorgeous, hell I don't even find her cute or beautiful. But somehow her look is really appealing. Not easy, at any rate. From a mainland actress to the silver screen. Very, very lucky break. She played her part excellently as well. Hell, my dad agreed, and that's saying something. That cynical arse hardly says something nice to the ears.
Anyway, the whole show is pretty different. Loosely classified, you can slot it into the action/adventure category, but that isn't doing the show justice. Yes, it's a pretty corny concept and has an even lamer storyline. What's special is the way it was done. Jet Li and Jacky Chan speaking english with a loser-ish Ang Moh boy? Yes please. Instant win.
Chinese phrases translated directly into English? Jesus, that crap is funny as hell. Detach yourself from the apparent "serious" mood of the movie and look at it, occasionally, like the helluva spoof of martial arts movies it is. I swear, you'll enjoy the whole film better more than ten times over.
And that's today. I'll definitely be returning to the building. It's got bloody everything, minus the unnecessary saturation of retail stores. Oh yes, and I'll be watching that actress. <3.
Cheers people. Monday blues. CJC FTL.
